How do I end my voluntary insurance?

Text
  1. Fill in the Form Natural Person Registration Form (NPRF) – Deregistration of a voluntarily insured person.
  2. Send the form:

When will my insurance end?

Text

On the date of deregistration, i.e. not earlier than the date when the deregistration was submitted.

An insured person who is no longer interested in voluntary insurance may deregister from it at any time.

Can my insurance cease by itself, without deregistration?

Yes. In the following cases, insurance ceases without your deregistration, namely:

  • insurance will automatically cease; if obligatory social insurance arises for you as a SEP/SZČO, your voluntary sickness insurance will automatically cease. However, in both cases, pension insurance continues. If you are interested in ending it, you must submit a deregistration from pension insurance.
  • If a person is awarded an invalidity pension and has reached pensionable age, their voluntary sickness insurance and voluntary unemployment insurance will cease. This occurs on the date determined by the Social Insurance Agency as the date pensionable age is reached, at the earliest on the date when it was determined. The pension is awarded on the date when the Social Insurance Agency issues the decision awarding the pension.
  • On the date you are awarded an invalidity pension with a reduction in earning capacity of more than 70%, excluding pension insurance.
  • After the awarding of an early old age pension, (all three types of voluntary insurance cease).
  • After the awarding of an old age pension, your voluntary sickness insurance and voluntary unemployment insurance will cease.
  • When you no longer have permanent residence in the territory of the Slovak Republic or a temporary residence permit or a permanent residence permit (all three types of voluntary insurance cease).
  • If you do not pay any contributions to voluntary insurance for two consecutive months (this does not apply if a person voluntarily insured for sickness, a person voluntarily insured for pension or a person voluntarily insured for unemployment was not obliged to pay contributions to voluntary insurance in the calendar month).

Can I pay contributions even after it has ceased?

Text

The above is unnecessary, as they will then be paid without legal grounds. The Social Insurance Agency will refund them to you (either at your request or based on its own findings) and they will, therefore, not be taken into account in the award of benefits.

Can I ask for them to be returned?

Text

Yes. If you paid contributions even after the insurance ceased, you can claim reimbursement from the relevant Social Insurance Agency branch where you were registered as a voluntary insured person.
